Our Thoughts
No matter the length of the trip, here’s what a seasoned traveler packs in their carry on luggage for a smooth and comfortable flight. First off, I use a Samsonite 16 wheel spinner carry on. It’s been so good to me, and we’re nearing 20 years together travelling the globe, and covering millions of miles.
No matter how long or how short the trip, here's what a seasoned traveler packs in their carry on luggage for a smooth and comfortable flight.
The Suitcase
I use a Samsonite 16 4 wheel spinner carry on. It’s been so good to me, that we’re nearing 20 years together travelling the globe, and covering millions of miles.
What to Pack and Where
In the top zipper pocket
In the top zipper pocket you’ll find my cell phone, passport holder which houses my passport, loyalty cards, pens and jet lag pills by Homeocan—they actually work for me. I’ve flown from Vancouver to Hong Kong and onwards to Sydney and was in great shape thanks to these.
In the lower zipper pocked
In the lower zipper pocket you’ll find my paper documents such reservations for hotels and airlines. I do use digital files, but these are thin and handy to have as a backup.
My large Apple tablet goes in the lower zipper pocket too as it’s easily accessible in lounges and in flight. The charger lives with the tablet, along with a bag of chocolate for in the sky sweetness.
In the main carry on
In the main carry on, I always pack enough personal clothes for two days just in case my main luggage goes missing. Luckily, that’s only happened twice in my lifetime!
My toiletry bag goes close to the top for easy security access. Inside are all my medical needs plus vitamin support and handy wipes. Invest in a good toiletry bag as it’s going to be inspected multiple times in its lifetime.

Paired with the clothes and toiletries, I bring a portable charger and adapters for the countries I’m visiting. Years ago I bought a multi country adapter so I only pack one. Beside the charge and adapter, I leave space for a small, foldable umbrella.
If I take a laptop, I place it in the see through mesh zippable pouch in the top of the open main case. Generally speaking, I try to keep the mesh zippable area free and clear as I like to store vinyl records from my travels there. It offers perfect protection for them.
The rest stays empty
The rest of my carry on is kept empty to hold space for all the valuable and precious goods that will go in there as we travel. Over the years this has also become overload luggage for my beloved wife, Cathy.
If you’re travelling in Business or First, you’ll have a generous luggage allowance—use it to the max over the course of the trip.
