Our Thoughts
The Hotel Interlaken is a historic 4-star gem in Switzerland, blending old-world charm with modern comfort, stunning views, and Swiss cuisine.
Hotel Interlaken, a historic gem nestled in the heart of Interlaken, Switzerland, has been a cherished destination for travellers since 1323.
Our European travels brought me back to this enchanting establishment, a place that held fond memories from a conference visit 35 years ago.

Dating back to the 14th century, Hotel Interlaken offers a unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary comforts. Over the years, it has undergone meticulous renovations, transforming it into a modern 4-star haven. Originally a hospital, then a cloister, and eventually a tavern by the early 15th century, this historic building has witnessed centuries of change.

Now, the hotel boasts 61 air-conditioned rooms, each thoughtfully designed with sleek Alpine-chic furnishings. During our stay, we chose a spacious room, equipped with modern amenities such as flat-screen televisions and complimentary wireless Internet access.

The bathroom, complete with complimentary toiletries and a hair dryer, was spacious and immaculately clean.

For budget-conscious travellers seeking an equally convenient location and delicious breakfast, there are simpler rooms available on the fifth floor. The hotel’s prime location ensures easy access to Interlaken Ost train station, making excursions a breeze.
One of the highlights of our stay was the magnificent view from our room, which overlooked the picturesque mountains and the charming church. You can even watch paragliders drift down the mountain and land in the nearby field. Beyond the cozy confines of our room, we explored the hotel’s inviting terrace and garden, where we could soak in the breathtaking scenery of Interlaken.
When it came to dining, the in-house Restaurant Taverne delighted our taste buds with Swiss cuisine presented in a modern twist. Complementing the culinary experience was a carefully curated selection of Swiss wines. If you prefer dining in the comfort of your room, room service is also available during limited hours. Hotel Interlaken also offers a complimentary hot/cold buffet breakfast served daily from 7:00 AM to 10 AM. The spread was impressive, featuring an array of bread, rice, pancakes, cereal, meats, jams, juices, coffee, tea, milk, scrambled eggs, sausage, deli meats, and cheese.

What truly sets Hotel Interlaken apart is its central location. Just a short five-minute walk away, guests can find the Congress Center and the Eastern Train Station. The hotel is also ideally situated for those looking to explore the nearby Japanese Gardens. The hotel staff further enhanced our experience with their warmth and extensive knowledge of the area’s attractions and activities.
Returning to Hotel Interlaken after three and a half decades was a nostalgic and delightful experience. Its blend of rich history, modern comforts, and excellent service reaffirmed its status as a timeless destination for travellers seeking the best of Interlaken.
